Salute 2011 – UNBELIEVEABLE!
With our Wednesday rain, the outlook for a sunny event was as dark as the sky. Come Thursday the sky started to change and you could hear a faint rumble off in the distance. Everyone awoke Friday morning to the sun shinning brightly over Petaluma and that faint rumble had turned into the beautiful sound of a high performance exhaust. Friday’s Kick-Off Social turned into another fun filled day with lots of beautiful cars. XERB was playing our favorite oldies with the help of Butch Johnston, our visiting Florida disc jockey and Rob Bogan, our long time music man. At 5pm, our Henry Travers’ Scholarship winners were presented their scholarships to the delight of friends, family, and car owners.
Saturday morning started out with the sun shinning off nearly 400 the freshly polished classic cars. The entrants gathered together at registration for a great breakfast cooked up by our friends at San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department and served by our local Kiwanis Club. After breakfast, the cars lined up for the short trip to downtown Petaluma. The weather was perfect, not to hot and not to cold. The downtown celebration was filled with music, cars, food, vendors, and fun. At 3:45pm the cruise started off with a tribute memorial cruise for one of our founding board members, Rich Poremba. Cruising started at 4pm with the roar of engines that all seemed to start at the same time. Cruising didn’t stop until the darkness forced the sun to surrender it’s light .
Thank you to everyone who participated, watched, sponsored, volunteered, contributed, and donated to our 6th Annual Petaluma’s Salute to American Graffiti! We couldn’t have done this without you! See you in 2012!
