AEDs for the Community

Save-A-Life

Through our Petaluma Save-A-Life project, we have donated over 100 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) into our community, which helped establish Petaluma as a HeartSafe community. From our police patrol cars to our high schools to many public buildings, we are making a difference.
We have also purchased an electrically powered ambulance cot for the Petaluma Fire Department and supported the Petaluma Police Department’s Bicycle Helmet Safety Program.

AEDs Save Lives

When someone has a heart attack, what you do for them within the next few minutes can make the difference between life and death. An automated external defibrillator (AED) diagnoses and, if necessary, shocks the heart of a person experiencing cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation ortachycardia. This treatment – called defibrillation – enables the heart to attempt to re-establish an effective rhythm.

What is an AED

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
